Article

Irene Chou was an acclaimed modern ink painter and an active participant in the ink painting movement in Hong Kong in the 1960s and 1970s. The ‘impact structural stroke’ and blob-splashes are some of her signatures in her paintings. Born in Shanghai, she graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in economics in 1945. She then moved to Hong Kong in 1949 with her husband Evan Yang (1921–78) who was a writer and film director. Chou migrated to Australia in 1992, and passed away there.
